How do I reverse a percentage calculation?
To find the original number before a percentage was added, divide by (1 plus the percentage over 100). For example, if £120 includes 20 percent, the original was £120 divided by 1.20, which is £100.
What is the difference between percentage and percentage points?
Percentage points measure the absolute difference between two percentages. If interest rates go from 2 percent to 3 percent, that is one percentage point, but a 50 percent relative increase.
How do I calculate profit margin?
Profit margin is ((revenue minus cost) divided by revenue) times 100. If you sell for £100 what cost £60, your margin is ((100 minus 60) divided by 100) times 100, which is 40 percent.
