Secret

Defence

UK government classification for information whose compromise would cause serious damage to national security.

Secret is a UK government security classification for information whose unauthorised disclosure would cause serious damage to national security, international relations, or other critical interests. Accessing Secret information requires SC clearance at minimum. Secret information must be handled on accredited systems, stored in approved containers, and transmitted through secure channels. Much defence programme information is classified Secret.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

Secret classification brings significant handling requirements. Working with Secret information requires cleared personnel, accredited IT systems, and appropriate physical security. Plan for these requirements before bidding on Secret contracts.
