Inexperienced attacker who uses pre-made tools and scripts without understanding how they work.
A script kiddie is an inexperienced attacker who uses pre-made hacking tools, scripts, and exploit kits without understanding the underlying techniques. Script kiddies lack the skill to develop their own attacks but can still cause damage using readily available tools. The term is often pejorative within security communities. While individual script kiddies aren't sophisticated, their numbers and the availability of attack tools mean they contribute significantly to overall attack volume.
Why It Matters
The DSC Perspective:
Script kiddies demonstrate that attacks don't require skill—anyone with motivation can launch attacks using available tools. This expands the threat landscape significantly. Basic security measures stop most script kiddie attacks.
