Security Assertion Markup Language—standard protocol for exchanging authentication and authorisation data.
SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) is an XML-based standard for exchanging authentication and authorisation information between identity providers and service providers. SAML enables SSO—users authenticate with their identity provider, which issues SAML assertions that applications accept as proof of identity. SAML 2.0 is widely supported by enterprise applications. While newer protocols like OIDC are gaining ground, SAML remains dominant for enterprise SSO.
