Quarantine

Email Security

Holding area for suspicious emails pending review or automatic deletion.

Email quarantine holds messages identified as potentially threatening or policy-violating for review before delivery or deletion. Quarantine provides a safety net—suspicious emails are held rather than delivered or immediately deleted. Administrators or users (depending on configuration) can review quarantined messages and release legitimate ones. Quarantine policies balance security (holding more) with usability (minimising false positives). Regular quarantine review catches both missed threats and wrongly blocked legitimate mail.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

Quarantine provides a safety net for email security. Configure appropriate quarantine policies and ensure someone reviews held messages. Excessive quarantine creates user frustration; insufficient quarantine increases risk.
