List X

Defence

MOD-approved contractor status for handling classified information at company premises.

List X is MOD approval for commercial organisations to hold UK government classified information (Official-Sensitive and above) at their premises. List X status requires meeting stringent physical, personnel, and IT security requirements. Companies undergo security vetting and ongoing monitoring. List X enables handling of classified contracts impossible without appropriate facilities. The approval process is substantial, requiring significant security investment.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

List X is essential for certain classified defence work. The approval process is lengthy and expensive—plan well ahead if List X contracts are a target market. Not all defence work requires List X.
