Export Administration Regulations—US export controls on dual-use technology with military applications.

Export Administration Regulations (EAR) are US regulations controlling the export of dual-use items—technology with both commercial and military applications. EAR is less restrictive than ITAR but still creates compliance obligations. Items on the Commerce Control List are subject to EAR. UK companies using US-origin dual-use technology must understand EAR requirements. EAR and ITAR together comprise the main US export control regimes affecting UK defence and technology companies.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

EAR affects broader technology than ITAR. Many commercial technologies with military applications fall under EAR. Understand which US export controls apply to your products and technology.
