Data Destruction

Data Protection

Secure disposal of data ensuring it cannot be recovered or reconstructed.

Data destruction is the secure disposal of data at end of life, ensuring it cannot be recovered. For digital data, this means secure deletion using appropriate methods—overwriting, degaussing, or physical destruction for storage media. Simply deleting files isn't sufficient—proper destruction tools or certified destruction services are needed. For paper, cross-cut shredding or certified destruction services ensure documents can't be reconstructed.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

Improper disposal leads to breaches. Deleted data is often recoverable without proper destruction. Use certified destruction services and verify destruction is complete.
