Attack combining multiple malware types or techniques to increase effectiveness and evade detection.
A blended threat combines multiple attack techniques or malware types in a single campaign. Rather than relying on one method, blended threats might use social engineering to deliver malware that exploits vulnerabilities and installs backdoors. This multi-pronged approach increases success rates and complicates defence—blocking one component doesn't stop the attack. Modern advanced threats are typically blended, combining various techniques for initial access, persistence, and impact.
Why It Matters
The DSC Perspective:
Blended threats demonstrate why defence in depth matters. Single-layer protection is insufficient when attacks combine multiple techniques. Security strategies must address multiple attack vectors simultaneously.
