802.1X

Networking

Network authentication standard requiring devices to authenticate before gaining network access.

802.1X is an IEEE standard for port-based network access control. It requires devices to authenticate (typically through a RADIUS server) before the switch or wireless access point grants network access. 802.1X is used for both wired and wireless network authentication, preventing unauthorised devices from connecting. Implementation requires supported network infrastructure, a RADIUS server, and device configuration.

Why It Matters

The DSC Perspective:

802.1X provides strong network access control. It's particularly valuable for preventing unauthorised device connections. Implementation requires planning but significantly improves network security.
